A research study has reported that males with high levels of testosterone maintain greater amounts of muscle mass and a higher percent of muscle to fat ratio even into their 40’s.
"The male patients with low testosterone did maintain a certain amount of muscle mass, but were able to maintain strength and size only with a lot more exercise of all types.” said Dr. Lance Garret of the VA Riviera Beach Health Care System. “And they would never add more mass. In fact, over time, as their hormone markers sank even lower, some of their hard work gains would diminish.”
How The Testosterone Hormone is Administered
The hormone is administered as a cream rubbed vigorously on the inside of the wrists or the inside of the theighs. To a far greater degree it is administered as an injection in the buttocks every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the condition being treated. Blood tests will be done regularly to determine the effectiveness of the therapy. If the hormone is used as part of the treatment for delayed puberty and stunted bone growth, periodic X-rays may be needed to determine the effectiveness of the therapy.
